Work and Holiday Visa (Subclass 462)

The Working Holiday Visa is designed for young adults who want to holiday and work in Australia for up to one year.

Eligibility:

  • Age: Usually 18–30 years (35 for some countries).

  • Passport: You must hold a passport from an eligible country.

  • No dependents allowed during stay.

  • Meet health, character, and financial requirements.

What You Can Do:

  • Stay in Australia for up to 12 months.

  • Work to help fund your trip, with a limit of 6 months per employer.

  • Study for up to 4 months.

  • Travel in and out of Australia as often as you like.

Extensions:

  • You may be eligible for a second or third Working Holiday visa if you complete specific regional work (e.g. agriculture, construction) during your stay.

Best For:

  • Travelers wanting a mix of work, travel, and short-term study.

Tourist Visa (subclass 600)

The Visitor Visa (Subclass 600) allows people to come to Australia as tourists, to visit family/friends, or for short-term non-work purposes such as short study.

What You Can Do:

  • Stay for 3, 6, or 12 months depending on the stream and assessment.

  • Study a short course for up to 3 months.

  • Attend English language classes or other recreational study (non-accredited).

Important Notes:

  • You cannot work on this visa.

  • If your course is longer than 3 months or leads to a qualification, you need a Student Visa (Subclass 500).

  • Not intended for students pursuing full-time study or pathways to permanent residency.

Best For:

  • Tourists interested in a short educational or cultural experience while visiting Australia.
